A Shared Vision for Ireland’s Contribution to: ‘set the agenda for the future of Humanitarian Action’

Funded By:    Deptartment of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFA)
Programme:    Irish Aid: Development Education Funding Scheme
Lead Researchers:    Dr Pat Gibbons, Brian Casey, Eimear Hannon
Duration of Project:    01-May-14 to 30-Sep-16

Description
The Project aims to set the agenda for ‘Ireland’s Humanitarian Agenda Post 2016’. It is designed to feed into the consultation process of a bigger global initiative, the World Humanitarian Summit (WHS) 2016 – being managed and coordinated by UN OCHA.  Two part-time personnel (Brian Casey & Eimear Hannon) are employed as part of the process to manage,  coordinate and implement a strategy that will be developed by the project’s Steering Committee.  This Steering Committee comprises a range of senior officials from a broad humanitarian stakeholder mix.

In summary the project will: a) map and explore shared interests between this disparate stakeholder mix to arrive at a coherent Irish message to be brought to an Irish Humanitarian Summit in 2015; and b) to manage and co-ordinate Ireland’s contribution to the World Humanitarian Summit (WHS) in 2016.
