Advanced Human Resources Management in Humanitarian Action

A manager’s ability to employ appropriate human resources often key to successful humanitarian response. Unfortunately, managing human resources in humanitarian contexts poses a number of challenges. For example, supply of qualified staff in humanitarian affected can be limited; organisations must scale up and down rapidly; and issues of safety and security are often prevalent. This 5-week blended learning module aims to provide an advanced foundation for human resource management in humanitarian contexts in light of these challenges. The module uses a mix of classroom and online based learning to cover the main components necessary for managing human resource in humanitarian contexts: workforce planning; building human resources into strategic planning recruitment; deployment and induction; personnel management; and organisational learning.
On successful completion of the course participants should have a highly specialised understanding of human resources and humanitarian action at a level necessary to function as a senior professional or expert in human resources in humanitarian action
